What Is Ullr Fest?

Ullr Fest is Breckenridge's annual homage to Ullr, the Norse god of snow, celebrated since 1963. The festival honors Ullr's mythical contributions to winter sports and the ski community, blending Norse traditions with Breckenridge's unique mountain culture. Over the years, it has evolved into one of Colorado's most distinctive winter festivals, featuring a mix of zany traditions, community spirit, and winter revelry.

2025 Event Highlights

Thursday, December 18

• 3:00 PM – Crowning of the Ullr King and Queen
  Local residents are honored for their community contributions and love of snow.
• 3:30 PM – World's Longest Shotski® Unofficial World Record Attempt
  Join the Breckenridge Distillery and the Breckenridge Mountain Rotary in their quest to beat the unofficial world record for the longest Shotski®. The current record is held by Park City, UT. Pro Tip: Register early. Registrations starts on December1st. 
  • Time: 2:30pm lineup, 3:00pm entry, 3:30pm shot starts

    Cost: $20 Must be 21 years old to participate.
• 4:00 PM – Ullr Parade
  Breckenridge bursts with energy during the Ullr Fest Parade, where the streets are filled with imaginative floats, cheering crowds, lively costumes, and plenty of Viking helmets.

• 5:00 PM – Ullr Bonfire
  Gather around the town bonfire and celebrate the ultimate tribute to Ullr! We’ll light up old Christmas trees from past years and dance to the beats of our DJ, performing snow dances to welcome a season full of endless powder days.

Friday, December 19

• Rock Star Rail Jam
  

  The Rockstar Energy Open will run alongside Breckenridge Ullr Fest, providing fans with a weekend packed with winter celebrations. The festival kicks off with a star-studded rail jam competition in downtown Breck, followed by a live DJ to keep the energy high and the crowd dancing. Like Ullr Fest, the event is free and open to the public, with optional VIP upgrades for those seeking a premium experience.

Saturday, December 20

• Ice Skate with Ullr

  Glide, twirl and skate to an ice-skating celebration for Ullr. Bring the kids for an afternoon of ice skating. Skate rentals are available in figure skates as well as hockey skates. The ice rink offers skating aids to enhance stability, if needed.

The Origins of Ullr Fest

Ullr Fest, originally known as Ullr Dag, was conceived in 1963 by Breckenridge locals Trygve Berge and Sigurd Rockne. Inspired by European winter carnivals and the Norse god Ullr's association with skiing and winter sports, they aimed to create a unique celebration that would highlight Breckenridge's ski culture. The first Ullr Dag featured torchlight parades, ski races, and a royal ball, setting the foundation for the festival's enduring traditions.
